Animal Care Sanctuary in E. Smithfield Opens its new Kennel and clinic

A Dream Ten Years In The Making

After years of planning, fundraising, grant-writing, sweat, tears and community support both near and far, the ACS dream of a new clinic and kennel is finally becoming a reality.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 10, we will officially unveil this new $1.77 million facility to the public with an open house. Thousands of supporters have donated over the years towards this much-needed building, and we are so excited to finally bring it to you.

This new facility will greatly improve our quality of care and efficiency for our rescued animals. The canine runs will be separated by concrete walls instead of fencing, which will better separate dogs and reduce noise – leading to decreased stress and happier canines. The kennel will also feature meet-and-greet rooms where individuals and families can meet with dogs privately in a home-like setting to better gauge whether the canine could be the right fit for them.

Meanwhile, the clinic, which has been operating out of a cramped trailer since it was started, will massively improve the working conditions of our vet staff. In addition to simply having much more space, multiple operating rooms will ensure quicker, more efficient procedures and improved care for both our rescues and our community seeking spay/neuter surgeries, wellness exams and vaccine administration.

This new facility has been 10 years in the making. Chief Executive Officer Joan Smith-Reese recognized the exceptional need for the building since she joined ACS, and it has been her main mission throughout her decade of dedication to the sanctuary. Through donations, grants, hustle and hard work, Smith-Reese spearheaded an organization-wide effort to make this vision a reality.

We are beyond excited to start this new chapter at ACS, and we are even more excited by what it means to our animals and our communities – both locally and abroad. We have never given up on our animals and our supporters, and our supporters have never given up on us. Thanks to all of us together, we’re making the world a better place for all of our furry friends.

While the new facility is on the cusp of completion, we would still greatly appreciate any donations towards the cost of the building. You can learn more HERE.
