Director of Veterinary Services for Animal Care Sanctuary

Animal Care Sanctuary is seeking a veterinarian that is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the medical and surgical care of shelter and community pet companions. Commitment to animal welfare and a compelling need to make a difference in the lives of the
animals we serve and the humans we encounter is essential.

The director will mentor the veterinarian team including veterinarians in the community clinics, the licensed veterinarian technicians, veterinarian assistants, clinic support staff and sanctuary caregivers, oversee the medical standards and operations of the clinic, educate and strive to ensure the delivery of the highest quality medical, surgical, treatment and preventative care to our companion animals.

This position will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will assume a leadership role that assists program development and works closely with leadership team to make critical decisions that affect our animals. The ability to actively build professional relationships with key outside organizations, Animal Care Sanctuary Board of Directors and the community at large is essential.

Summary of Job Responsibilities

Manage all veterinary medical care related to sanctuary animals, implementing practices and protocols related to shelter medicine.

Responsible for the medical health and well-being of sheltered animals, including but not limited to sterilization, quarantine issues, and ethics of shelter medical practice.

Conduct rounds with department heads to observe, diagnose and establish treatment plans.

Diagnose and treat shelter animal problems, perform spay/neuter surgeries and other needed procedures on shelter animals, provide information and counsel to staff and pet owners regarding the health status of animals, coaching and supporting animal health staff and ensure Animal Care Sanctuary adheres to the principles of sheltering as outlined in the Association of Shelter Veterinarian’s Guidelines for Standards of Care in Animal Shelters.

Oversee, professionally develop and evaluate veterinarians, and ancillary vet staff.

Attend Professional Advisory Meetings quarterly

Attend Ethics meetings when requested, attend all leadership meetings.

VETERINARY TECHNICIAN

Under the direction of the Veterinarian, the vet tech will monitor the health of animals in the shelter, provide care and treatment to sick and injured animals, and prepare animals for veterinary care and spay/neuter surgery.

Veterinary Technician

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Veterinarian, the vet tech will monitor the health of animals in the shelter, provide care and treatment to sick and injured animals, and prepare animals for veterinary care and spay/neuter surgery. The Vet Tech will assist the veterinarian both in surgery and with shelter medicine responsibilities, as well as ensuring that the vet facilities and equipment are clean and in good working order.

Qualifications

Licensed Vet Tech in the state of PA. with previous experience in a medical or veterinary environment.

Under the direction of the Executive Director this position is responsible for transport of animals between transport areas and clinics in both East Smithfield and Wellsboro including scheduling of transportation and maintenance of vehicle.

Qualifications

Education and/or previous experience with veterinarian care. Must possess organizational skills, as well as time management and computer skills and understand the importance of customer service. Additionally, requires medical knowledge, self-confidence, decisiveness, alertness, ability to make split second decisions under stress, attention to detail and accuracy. Most possess excellent driving record.
